About

Pouriā Nasiri (b. 1998, Shiraz, Iran) is a composer, violinist, researcher, university lecturer, and computer science engineer. His creative focus lies in exploring the materials of Iranian classical and folk music—melodic structures, rhythmic figures, and modal systems—within the broader framework of classical and contemporary composition.

He began his musical journey at the age of 10 by studying violin, later continuing with the performance of Radif, the traditional repertoire of Iranian music for violin. After several years of performance study, his passion for composition led him to dedicate himself to creating original works, combining Iranian musical heritage with modern approaches.

Pouria holds a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Shiraz University (2016–2021), where he completed his final project under the supervision of Prof. Reza Boustani. He then pursued graduate studies at the Iran University of Art (Tehran), earning his M.Mus. in Composition with distinction (GPA: 4.0). His practical thesis, supervised by Dr. Madjid Tahriri, was a piece for solo violoncello and string quintet titled Mourning. His theoretical thesis, supervised by Dr. Hamid Askari Rābori, investigated research methodologies and conducted a thematic analysis of music composition theses in Iran’s state universities between 2011 and 2021.

During his studies, he worked under the mentorship of distinguished professors including Hamidrezā Dibāzar, Mohammad-Rezā Tafazzoli, Dr. Madjid Tahriri, and Dr. Hamid Askari Rābori, and participated in specialized courses with scholars and musicians such as Ehsān Saboohi, Ebrāhim Bazrafkan, Sepehr Pirāsteh, Sepantā Hamedinejād, Soroush Naziri, Armin Sanayei, Dr. Loris Hoviān, Prof. Mohammad-Rezā Azādehfar, and Dr. Hoomān As’adi. His academic and artistic training spans tonal and modal harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, contemporary music analysis, Iranian music studies, conducting, and ethnomusicology.

He has received awards from festivals and composition opportunities in Iran and the United States. Alongside his compositional career, Pouria teaches at the music department of The Fazel Art and Culture Institute of Higher Education, as well as at the music conservatory, music academies, and through online platforms.

Currently, he is a PhD Candidate in Art Research at the Iran University of Art, where his research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches in music studies.
